The Scorpion
by Glass Torch Technologies
for Glass Lampworkers, Beadmakers, Flameworkers, Glassblowers and Marblemakers
The Scorpion uses the mighty Cricket as the center fire for this 2 stage standard
torch. The Cricket is well known for its efficiency on a 5 LPM concentrator and the
great ability to work both soft glass and borosilicate glass with ease. The Scorpion
has an 8 jet outer fire using our new patent pending 100% surface mix design that
optimizes the available oxygen. The Scorpion makes the flame size of larger torches
with fewer jets, owing the phenomenal performance to the newest GTT innovations in
jet design.
The Scorpion produces flame sizes from a 2" pinpoint flame for detail work up to
a flame of 1.25" wide and 16" long for wide beads and solid borosilicate work up
to 3" in diameter. The Scorpion has excellent flame characteristics for soft glass
and borosilicate glass that makes working easy and enjoyable. The colors of soft
glass are easy to maintain and strike when necessary without burning or boiling.
Borosilicate glass is easily worked by the penetrating heat of the Scorpion without
waiting for the glass to get to working temperature. The Scorpion can completely
melt through 3/4" solid borosilicate rod in 1 minute!
The Scorpion is available in a 2 stud or 4 stud version to optimize any setup. The
2 stud is used when the fuel and oxygen come from a single source (or concentrators
"Y"ed together), and when there is no desire to use a foot pedal now or in the future.
The 4 stud allows for the most flexibility for any setup to be run. The primary
use is for a foot pedal to be used to turn the outer fire on and off with the outer
fire valves preset to the desired setting. Also the 4 stud can make use of different
oxygen sources such as a concentrator on the center fire and tanked oxygen on the
outer fire. In this situation the fuel will be "Y"ed together at the torch for simplicity.
The 2 stud and 4 stud Scorpion both work identically in function, the only change
is the way the fuel and oxygen are supplied to the torch. A foot pedal is NOT required
for a 4 stud torch, the hoses can be "Y"ed back together to use a single fuel source
and a single oxygen source with the option to use a foot pedal in the future.
The Scorpion was designed with concentrators, low pressure and low consumption in
mind. The Scorpion runs great on one 10 LPM concentrator or two 5 LPM concentrators
with the optimal setup being two 8 LPM concentrators or tanked oxygen. Oxygen consumption
is 11 LPM (22 CFH) at the maximum flame size. It requires as low as ¼ psi to 5 psi
of natural gas or propane with a low consumption rate of 1.5 LPM (3 CFH) at the maximum
flame size.
You need the following studio equipment to use this torch:
*Four Port torches are used when you want to use a foot pedal. If you don't have a
foot pedal now but want the option to use one later than you can temporarily
plumb the 4 port to a 2 port using a little hose and a pair of Y connectors.

Two regulators are required when you use a two gas, (oxygen and propane) torch.
They fit between the gas tanks and the gas hose.
None are needed if you are using the Hot Head torch. Oxygen Regulator is

Gas Hoses
Use this
hose when you use a two gas torch (oxygen and propane) like a Minor Burner.
To attach torch, push the cut ends onto the torch and secure with a hose clamp. These
hoses have two attached hoses, one for oxygen and one for propane. The brass end
of the hoses are attached to the gas regulators. Propane hose fittings are left handed threads and colored red and oxygen is right handed
and colored green - This prevents a mix-up when attaching hoses.
CAUTION
Do not use the easy to find oxygen/acetylene type hoses. The propane gas
will rot them. The hoses we sell are made for all types of gas including
propane. Hose ends have female brass fittings.

Flashback Arrestors
In some rare situations, a flame can travel back down a hose to the gas tank and cause an explosion.
This device helps prevent this reverse gas flow and flashback by using a reverse flow check valve and a flame arrestor.
