Painting on Glass

Goal of this workshop

Is to teach you how to do traditional glass painting on glass. The type of paint we use is a permanent paint that is fired on to the glass in a kiln at around 1100 degrees F.

    • preview of metting, stipeling, and shading

    • tracery and shading only
    • flowers and leaves
    • heraldry motifs
    • simple hands and faces
    • suggested practice techniques: squares, cubes, triangles, cylinders and spheres

Second Monday Evening

  • Matting - Black
    • shading
    • stipeling
    • brushes

Third Monday Evening

  • Matting - Bistre Brown
    • shading
    • stipeling
    • brushes

Our classroom and equipment

Our classroom and workshop area has, perhaps, the latest and most complete setup available anywhere. Each student has a well lit, comfortable work area, with plenty of room for working. We have plenty of kilns to fire as many projects as you have time to make.

    • preferably bring your own cut glass

    • sandblasted pallet
    • hand rest
    • Recommended reading: Painting on Glass by Albinus Elskus
    • Many students elect to purchase the beginning Painting Kit $59.

Most of our students are from out of town. There are nice affordable accommodations close by. We can shuttle you from and to the San Jose Airport and close by Motels.
