When propane is used, the furnace
uses a little more than one gallon per hour. There is 96,000
BTU's in one gallon of propane.
Furnaces do not get hot enough
to melt borosilica (Pyrex) glass, just soft glass.
Gas fired crucible furnaces are
high maintaince! The high temperature and spilled glass breaks
down insulating materials. You will be relining the walls, replacing
bricks on the base, and patching up the lid.We sell all of the
materials for you to do this. It is just part of the game when
using glassblowing equipment.
Yes crucibles crack. Sometimes
we get 30 firings out of one and sometimes just 3. Calculate
it in the cost of each firing. Slower heating and cooling really
prolongs the life of crucibles.
