Controllers for Kilns
12 Key Pad Digital Controller
The new
TNFII latest generation control system.
For convenience, order a digital controller. The Paragon digital controller will do 4 things:
- Heat the kiln slowly at a constant rate of increase.
- Turn off the kiln when it reaches your selected temperature.
- Hold the kiln at a desired temperature for a period of time and then turn off automatically.
- Start heating the kiln at a future time. Example start the kiln at 3 AM so you can watch the final stages of fusing before going to work at 7 AM.

Dial Controller
Stand alone ICS control switch - 110 to 120 volts, 15 amps Simply plug any kiln into this controller and then plug this controller in a standard wall socket. The type of controller is an ICS, Infinite Control switch. (Not a rheostat type device) This means when you set it at say 50%, the power will be on half the time and off the other half of the time. When the power is flowing it flows at full power. It works with all kilns rated at 120 volts, 1 to 15 amps.PCB1 - $69
Use this if your kiln does not have any controller or if you are making your
own kiln and need a controller. This does NOT set the kiln to a particular
temperature. It is just like the dial control on your stove top (not the
oven). On your stove you turn the dial on but you do not know what
temperature the food in the pan is. If you want to know what the temperature
of the food is you would use a thermometer. This PCB-1 controller is just
like that. You turn the dial to turn it on. If you want to know the
temperature of the kiln you would need to have a pyrometer (thermometer). If
the temperature of the kiln is to hot, than you would turn the dial down. If
to cold you would turn the dial up until it stabilizes to the temperature
you desire. If this is too much babysitting for you, than you would get the
full digital controller listed at the top of the page.
A pyrometer is required if you want to:
- Read the temperature of a kiln.
- Hold the kiln at a particular temperature.
Pyrometers

Reads the temperature of a kiln. Simply place the wire thermocouple wire into the kiln to read the temperature. The end of the wire should be at least 1" into the kiln. Do not let the thermocouple wire touch a live heating element wire. Does not require electricity. The insulation at the end of the thermocouple wire that is inside the kiln will burn away. It will not affect performance. Pyrometer include a thermocouple.
Large Face Pyrometer
| Order # | Description | Price |
| PA1 | Pyrometer - large face gauge - with 1033 thermocouple | $69 |
| PA1B | Pyrometer bracket - Optional | $12 |
| 1033 | Replacement thermocouple - Ceramic Tip - 36" | $19 |
Digital Pyrometer
Very accurate.
These Digital Pyrometers are much more accurate than the above
Analog PA1 pyrometers. It is important to set your kiln to the
proper temperature for annealing! Although the thin thermocouple
wire probe on these Digitals are more sensitive to burn out then
the heavier PA1 Analog thermocouple probe. Thermocouple wire
included. Reads up to 1000 degrees C (1832 degrees F).
Requires batteries. Do not let the thermocouple
wire touch a live heating element wire. The covering and insulation at the
end of the thermocouple wire that is inside the kiln will burn
away. It will not affect performance. Pyrometer includes a 36"
long thermocouple. This is also a Multi-Meter! Measures voltage, current and resistance!
| Order# | Description | List Price | Our Regular Price | Our SALE Price |
| 7772 | Digital Pyrometer AND Multi-Meter - Reads Centigrade Temperature (not F) | $79 | $69 | $59 |
| 2242T | Replacement Thermocouple Wire for 7772 | $9 |
- The tip of the thermocouple wire may eventually break.
There are two wires in the thermocouple welded at the end. Carefully
inspect to see if the two wires are disconnected. If it is disconnected,
either:
- Order a replacement thermocouple, or
- If you have the ability and the equipment, weld the ends together with your torch. It's a little tricky because of the wire is small.
Installing your pyrometer

If you want your pyrometer somewhere else next to your kiln, simply drill a small hole through the soft fire brick for your thermocouple wire. Remember, your pyrometer is going to read the temperature where the tip of the thermocouple wire is, so put it close to where you glass will be
