What we do in this glass blowing workshop
We have you start off getting a feel for the glass with Clear Blown Cylinders
By the end of the second day
we have each student work their first blown color vessel What we feel is unique about our Glass Blowing Workshop
A one weekend commitment.
We know you are busy and have a life and most people do not have days or weeks to go through a workshop. Our workshop is designed for one intense weekend.
You have only one other student in your workshop!
This keeps you busy, just enough time between pieces to catch your breath and plan your next piece before your turn again. Most other studios we have found that offer weekend workshops have 8 students!
The instructor, talks you through every piece you make.
When I (Brian) took my workshops at the University, the instructor demonstrated a piece to the 15 students and then it was up to me to muddle through the process during my 1 or 2 hour scheduled time to blow glass, usually days later when I had forgotten what I saw. I was lucky if the instructor or some advanced student was around to give me a pointer. That won't happen in our workshops!
I have to brag about our instructor.
He can get almost every student making great take home pieces immediately! He knows how to teach. Many accomplished artists, doing any type of art glass, may produce incredible art but do they know the skill of teaching? Our instructors knows that teaching you comes first.
Accomplish in a weekend what you would do in many more hours at a college or university.
Our intensive and immediate hands-on workshop allows you to progress quickly. When there is a day or two lap of time between blowing sessions, it takes time to get back up to speed each time you blow. No slides, no egos and put away your note paper and pencil in our workshop, we put you to work immediately!
Sundance has ten times the amount of colors available that other Glass Blowing Facilities have.
Even large University studios. This is because we use Bullseye Glass, all compatible, all ready to go in many forms, strips, crushed, flakes, stringers, coated with dichroic. WOW! We can even fuse pieces beforehand that we then incorporate into the blown pieces.
No intimidating equipment.
We purposely use smaller tanks and glory holes for the beginner. The heat coming from these are much more comfortable to work around, much less intimidating and much less tiring. The large equipment is only needed when we blow LARGE pieces during advanced workshops. This also keeps down the price of gas for the workshop and we pass these savings along to the students.
Price is very reasonable.
Our 2 day workshop is $315. The local state university charges $1000+ a semester for 3 hours a week blowing time, but only after you have spent $800 in a previous semester assisting for 30 hours! When you compare price, figure out how many hours YOU will be actually blowing for that price.
